What is the researchadmin listserv and who should subscribe?

This listserv has been created by the University of Maryland’s Division of Research in order to share information about our professional development opportunities for all of those who are interested, but is especially tailored toward business managers and staff who work in the field of research administration. This list will be used to share information about Spotlight sessions, the Certificate in Research Administration program, and other events hosted by the Division of Research.

Who should I contact if I have questions or need help?

How do I subscribe?

  1. Send an email to LISTSERV@listserv.umd.edu
  2. Within the email’s body, type "SUB," the name of the list, then their first name and last name, with the email having no subject. An example of this is: "SUB researchadmin Jane Doe" which would subscribe you to the University of Maryland’s Division of Research’s listserv.
  3. After you have sent the email, you should receive an email confirmation of your subscription. You don't need to reply to that email.

How do I unsubscribe?

  1. Send an email to LISTSERV@listserv.umd.edu
  2. Within the email’s body, type "UNSUB, "followed by the name of the list, with the email having no subject. An example of this is: "UNSUB researchadmin Jane Doe" which would subscribe you to the University of Maryland’s Division of Research’s listserv.
  3. After you have sent the email, you should receive an email confirmation of your unsubscription. You don't need to reply to that email.

I’m a supervisor, how do I subscribe my entire team to the list?

  1. Send an email to ​ebonyp@umd.edu
  2. Include the name and email address of every staff member who you would like to have added to the list.
  3. You will be sent email confirmation when your staff members have been subscribed to the listserv.

I am going out of town for a few days. How do I pause my subscription?

  1. Send an email to LISTSERV@listserv.umd.edu
  2. Within the email’s body, type "SET,” followed by the name of the list, and “NOMAIL,” with the email having no subject. An example would be: "SET researchadmin NO MAIL" which would subscribe you to the University of Maryland’s Division of Research’s listserv.
  3. With this, the listserv will stop sending you messages, and you will receive an email confirmation to this effect. You don't need to reply to that email.

I’m back from my vacation. How do I resume subscription?

  1. Send an email to LISTSERV@listserv.umd.edu
  2. Within the email’s body, type "SET,” followed by the name of the list and “MAIL,” with the email having no subject. An example would be: "SET researchadmin MAIL" which would subscribe you to the University of Maryland’s Division of Research’s listserv.
  3. With this, the listserv will start sending you messages again, and you will receive an email confirmation to this effect. You don't need to reply to that email.

How can I share information about an upcoming event with the listserv?

  1. Send an email to the listserv’s manager, ​ebonyp@umd.edu, with all of the information you’d like included in a message to the listserv.
  2. The list manager will decide if it is appropriate to share your message with the listserv, and will either distribute the message for you or work with you to resolve any concerns.
